Finches Class

Welcome To Finches Class

Our Class Teacher:  Mrs Clark

Our Class TA: Mrs Fitzgerald

Introducing the Finches, we are reception children and are the youngest children in the school, some of us are four years old and some are five! Mrs Clark is our teacher for four days and Mrs Poole teaches us on a Thursday. We also have Mrs Fitzgerald, Miss Devereux and Miss Walters to help us and make learning fun!

What we will be doing

In Finches Class our teachers get to know us well and then plan learning experiences that will help us to achieve our Early Learning Goals so that we are ready for the National Curriculum when we move onto Year One.

We love exploring our outdoor area and using it to be creative and to problem-solve. We make imaginary worlds with bricks, natural materials and sand. We build dens and use the guttering to race water– or cars – around obstacle courses that we create, and we love to identify and investigate the wildlife we find outside. We observe the seasonal changes in our school grounds, noticing and explaining the reasons for these changes and deciding what we like best about each season.

Inside we love to build in the construction corner, create new worlds with the small world toys, design and make things in our creative workshop using different materials, paints, or drawings. We share stories with our friends, sometimes using puppets, or read quietly in our book corner! Every day we dance and sing.

When we are settled in our classroom and essential daily routines, we start learning phonics and learn a new sound each day and its action to help us learn to read and write. Later in the year we begin to write words and sentences. We also use routines and explore loose parts and practical apparatus to gain a deep sense of numbers to ten. We learn how to form letters and numbers correctly so that as we get older, we can write quickly and legibly.

All our learning is fun, active, engaging and stems from our own interests so that we become independent, curious, and active learners!

As a Catholic School we have Christ at the heart of all we do, and we learn to become disciples of Jesus to create a loving environment filled with care for each other and for everything around us. As the youngest children we join with older classes to show care to others in this country and abroad by supporting local, national and international causes and charities to make a positive difference in our world.

What we are looking forward to

We are really looking forward to learning about everything, playing with our friends, and being able to read by ourselves. Playing on the trim trail, riding the balance bikes. Singing and dancing. Playing with the playdough and painting.
